Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) has been targeted by left-leaning media personalities for his endorsement of former President Donald Trump. The independent presidential candidate suspended his candidacy on Aug. 23 and joined Trump at his campaign rally in Arizona shortly after. He lamented how the Democratic Party, which has been strongly linked to his family, had "become the party of war, censorship [and] corruption." RFK Jr. explicitly endorsed Trump, going against the grain with his family's traditional endorsement of Democratic presidential nominees. According to the nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy, the Democratic Party has "abandoned democracy" – a far cry from its name. "In the name of saving democracy, the Democratic Party set itself to dismantling it," he told attendees of Trump's campaign rally. RFK Jr.'s endorsement of Trump did not sit well with leftist media personalities, who quickly took to X to denounce him. Actor and director Rob Reiner, a notorious anti-Trump personality, led the charge. "I've known [RFK Jr.] for quite a while. Something has happened to him," he wrote. "Maybe it's the worm that got into his brain, but saying Trump will protect your freedoms and keep America from becoming a totalitarian state, he's out of his f*****g mind." Actor Bradley Whitford of "The West Wing" fame also took to X, calling RFK Jr. "a sad, broken human being." He added that the independent candidate is "happy to sacrifice a woman's right to choose, destroy the planet he pretended to care for, even desecrate his own father’s legacy – all in a grievance fueled dry-drunk pursuit of his pathetic replacement addiction, attention." Sandra Bernhard, stand-up comic and actress of "Roseanne" fame, called RFK Jr. "broken" and "deeply disturbed." Political commentator Keith Olbermann meanwhile had strong words for his "old friend," denouncing him as a "f*****g anti-American disaster."

George Takei, who played Hikaru Sulu in the 1960s "Star Trek" series, also put in his two cents. He wrote on X: "RFK Jr. and Donald Trump. A sorrier pair could hardly be imagined." Actress Mia Farrow also condemned the independent candidate, saying that he is "nothing like his father" Robert F. Kennedy Sr., former U.S. attorney general. Even five of RFK Jr.'s siblings – Kathleen, Courtney, Kerry, Chris and Rory – issued a statement condemning him. The statement posted on X said RFK Jr.'s "decision to endorse Trump … is a sad ending to a sad story." They added that his choice "is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear." Despite the vitriol from Hollywood thrown his way, RFK Jr. found an ally in the person of his wife Cheryl Hines. She became famous for starring in the sitcom "Curb Your Enthusiasm" with show creator Larry David. During an interview with Tucker Carlson, RFK Jr. said she was the one who convinced him to give Trump a chance. Hines was initially against the idea, but she eventually changed and told her husband to listen to the former president. The couple then had a face-to-face meeting with Trump and his campaign manager Susie Wiles. Hines' decision to convince her husband to talk to Trump wasn't without risk, however. Whitford had earlier blasted her silence following RFK Jr.'s endorsement of Trump. The "West Wing" actor also attacked RFK Jr. as a "lunatic" and called the former president a "rapist," even though the latter wasn't convicted of it. Head over to RFKJr.news for similar stories.
