10 NFL teams refuse to offer social media support for LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month
Ten teams from the National Football League teams
have refused to voice any support for the LGBTQ+ community on social media this Pride Month.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons chose not to support Pride Month.
Meanwhile, 22 NFL teams have acknowledged Pride Month on social media. The Washington Commanders led the way with a heartfelt message, stating that Pride Month is fundamentally about love. The Commanders, along with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Buffalo Bills, went a step further by changing the colors of their logos to incorporate the pride flag.
The Minnesota Vikings showed their enthusiasm not only by tweeting their support and changing their logo, but also by updating the banner of their official social media account on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Other NFL teams that acknowledged Pride Month on social media are the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But despite the all-out support from most NFL teams, the NFL's main account has not posted any dedication to Pride Month and opted not to repost supportive messages from the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hockey players also refusing to yield to WOKEISM
This pushback against LGBTQ+ is also happening in other leagues.
Teams from the National Hockey League (NHL) did not participate in certain Pride events last year,
refusing to wear rainbow-colored LGBTQ-themed jerseys during pre-game warmups for Pride nights.
The NHL Board of Governors decided to halt the practice after Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov and San Jose Sharks goaltender James Reimer refused to wear their pride-themed warm-up jerseys due to their orthodox Christian faith.
"I respect everybody, and I respect everybody's choices," Provorov stated post-game in January 2023. "My choice is to stay true to myself and my religion. That's all I'm going to say."
Meanwhile, Reimer, who has been vocal about his Christian faith throughout his 13-year NHL career, explained his decision as a matter of personal conviction.
"For all 13 years of my NHL career, I have been a Christian – not just in title, but in how I choose to live my life daily. I have a personal faith in Jesus Christ who died on the cross for my sins and, in response, asks me to love everyone and follow him," Reimer said in March 2023.
"I have no hate in my heart for anyone, and I have always strived to treat everyone that I encounter with respect and kindness. In this specific instance, I am choosing not to endorse something that is counter to my personal convictions which are based on the Bible, the highest authority in my life."
