Just one day after former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley announced her intention to vote for former president Donald Trump in the upcoming November election, the former president stated he is pretty confident Haley will be in his administration if he is reelected. During a major rally in the Bronx on May 23,News 12 reporter asked Trump whether he would include Haley, his former Republican primary opponent, in his administration if reelected as president. "I think she's going to be on our team because we have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts," Trump told the News 12 reporter. "I appreciated what she said. You know, we had a nasty campaign, it was pretty nasty. But she's a very capable person, and I'm sure she's going to be on our team in some form, absolutely." Haley, who suspended her presidential campaign in March, voiced her support for Trump during an event at the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C., on May 22. Haley said that as a voter, she puts her priorities on a candidate who will "have the backs of our allies and hold our enemies to account. Who would secure the border, no more excuses. A president who would support capitalism and freedom. A president who understands we need less debt, not more debt." (Related: Nikki Haley just disqualified herself during a live CBS interview — she’s done…) "Trump has not been perfect on these policies. I've made that clear many, many times. But Biden has been a catastrophe. So I will be voting for Trump," she said. "Having said that, I stand by what I said in my suspension speech. Trump would be smart to reach out to the millions of people who voted for me and continue to support me and not assume that they're just going to be with him. And I genuinely hope he does that."

Haley's support for Trump is due to her personal and political interest

Haley's endorsement came after a series of pointed criticisms directed at Trump, whom she previously described as too old, chaotic, and "unhinged" to serve as president again. "I feel no need to kiss the ring," Haley said in February before suspending her primary campaign. "My political future is of no concern." She spent months offering only restrained criticisms of Trump, who attempted to overturn the 2020 election. Like other GOP candidates, she struggled with the dilemma of opposing a still-popular ex-president without alienating his base. When she finally turned against Trump in New Hampshire, it was a last-ditch effort as her path to the nomination closed. In a Feb. 1 interview, Haley noted Trump had exhibited some "confused moments" recently and criticized him for a "temper tantrum" following his New Hampshire primary win, when he tried to push her out of the race. In Columbia, South Carolina, Haley asked: "Do you really think he is going to win against Joe Biden when he is spending that much on legal fees? He is not." On Feb. 12, she said Trump was "completely unhinged" and accused him of siding with Putin over NATO members. In turn, former Trump national security adviser John Bolton, who has said that Trump should not be let anywhere near the White House again, expressed disappointment with Haley. “I think she has obviously made a political calculation that it is in her interests to support Donald Trump," Bolton said. "A lot of Republicans are making the same calculation because the performance of the Biden administration has been so appalling." Visit VoteRepublican.news for more stories about Trump and Haley.
