The leftist news outlet Huffington Post (HuffPost) appears to be triggered by former President Donald Trump's suggestion to extend the death penalty to drug kingpins and child sex traffickers. HuffPost Senior Reporter Jessica Schulberg expounded on Trump's remarks in a May 9 article. She mentioned that the Trump administration carried out an "unprecedented execution spree" during its final six months. Thirteen people on federal death row were executed, and a 17-year de facto moratorium on federal executions was lifted. Schulberg also claimed that Trump "has openly fantasized about executing drug dealers and human traffickers way back in 2021. While it "sounds horrible" to advocate for the death penalty, Trump said countries that don't have a "drug problem" are "those that institute a very quick trial, death penalty sentence" for traffickers. "You execute a drug dealer, and you'll save 500 lives because they kill on average 500 people," the former president asserted at the time. (Related: Trump says DEATH PENALTY a proper punishment for "antisemitism" in America.) She mentioned that conservatives behind the former president released an 887-page document that lays out policy goals and recommendations for each part of the federal government. The document's chapter on the Department of Justice (DOJ) was penned by Gene Hamilton, a former official at the department during the Trump administration. Hamilton wrote that the DOJ "should also pursue the death penalty for applicable crimes – particularly heinous crimes involving violence and sexual abuse of children – until Congress says otherwise through legislation." According to Schulberg, Hamilton played a role in ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and instituting the "zero-tolerance" border policy. "By referring to past court decisions, the [HuffPost] piece subtly argues that the death penalty for child rape 'would violate constitutional protections against cruel and unusual punishment,'" Modernity News wrote. "Why is the Left apparently triggered by the suggestion to extend the death penalty to make it an option for convicted violent child rapists?"

"Sound of Freedom" inspired Trump to execute child traffickers

Despite Schulberg's claims that Trump wants to execute child traffickers out of sheer sadism, the former president was actually inspired by the movie "Sound of Freedom" – which elaborated on the impact on child human trafficking. The movie that starred Jim Caviezel was smeared by the mainstream media for allegedly promoting QAnon conspiracy theories. Last July, Trump vowed to institute the death penalty for human traffickers if he is elected to a second presidential term. This followed a screening of the movie he held in New Jersey, where he spoke with producer Eduardo Verastegui and Caviezel. Verastegui also plays Paul Delgado, an ally of Caviezel's character Tim Ballard, in the movie. "When I'm back in the White House, I will immediately end the Biden border nightmare that traffickers are using to exploit vulnerable women and children. We will fully secure the border, [and] I will wage war on the cartels. They'll come back now because we have a weak administration," Trump said. "I will use Title 42 to end the child trafficking crisis by returning all trafficked children to their families without delay. I will [also] urge Congress to ensure that anyone caught trafficking children across our border receives the death penalty immediately. That includes also for women because women, as you know, are No. 1 in trafficking [and] children are actually No. 2." The Post Millennial wrote: "Trump was vigilant against trafficking and drug cartels during his term as president, and has promised that he will bring back those efforts if he secures a win in 2024. Biden's porous border policies are a far cry from Trump's border wall, a policy he campaigned on in 2016 and implemented once he took office."
