NYC still provides FREE hotel rooms to ILLEGALS, despite Mayor Eric Adams claiming that the Big Apple is "out of room"
New York City (NYC)
still provides free hotel rooms for illegal immigrants arriving at the Big Apple, despite Mayor Eric Adams claiming that the Big Apple has no more room for them.
Adams claimed that NYC is "out of room, literally" during a recent interview with
FOX5 NY's Rosanna Scotto. "We're not just saying we're out of room as a sound bite – we're out of room, literally. People are going to be eventually sleeping on the streets," he said. But behind the scenes, it appears that Adams' administration continues to accommodate unlawful border crossers.
This led to Scotto asking Adams why his administration keeps providing free hotel rooms, food, city-run shelters, free cellphones and other services if the city really faces a breaking point. For instance, the Roosevelt Hotel in midtown Manhattan has been transformed into a temporary migrant camp. More than 70,000 people pass through its luxurious lobby before being relocated to other hotels and shelters.
Adams replied that there was nothing he could do to revoke NYC's decades-old sanctuary policies. These policies shield illegals from being turned over to
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and deported.
"We cannot – by law – tell someone if they come into the city, 'You can't come into the city.' We can't even turn them over to ICE; the law states that we cannot notify ICE," the mayor told Scotto. "I cannot break the law and enforce the law."
Stefanik: Democrat policies to blame for NYC migrant crisis
During the interview, Adams also announced the impending cuts to services like food, shelter and clothing due to the overwhelming arrival of illegal aliens. Back in December, he already warned New Yorkers that they could
expect a decline in their quality of life due to budget cuts imposed to accommodate the growing influx of border crossers and illegal aliens.
"We're seeing the erosion of the quality of life that we've improved on in such a short period of time of this administration. We've been impacted; for many months, we were able to keep the visualization of this crisis from hitting our streets, but we have reached the breaking point. We no longer are able to do that because of the volume in numbers," Adams said in a press conference at the time. (Related:

The Biden administration releases approximately 5,000 border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. daily, where many end up working off the books, protected by the sanctuary policy and enjoying free housing funded by local taxpayers. This, in turn, adds to the strain of the Big Apple.
But months before Adams' warning, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) pointed out that
"radical" sanctuary policies are to blame for the migrant influx in NYC and other blue cities. She also pointed her fingers at the Democrats who push them – including Adams himself, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and President Joe Biden.
"Unfortunately, because of these extreme Democrats' policies, every community is now a border community," said Stefanik, the chairwoman of the House Republican Conference. She added that those communities are now "reaping the havoc these policies have caused."
