New York City (NYC) Mayor Eric Adams has called on President Joe Biden
to "control the border" as "there is no more room" in the big apple for illegal immigrants.
During a July 31 press conference, the mayor dubbed the wave of illegal immigration under Biden's watch a "national crisis that needs to be addressed by a state of emergency declaration. But this ought to be declared the soonest, as there are no signs showing the surge of illegals to NYC will end anytime soon.
"We need to control the border. We need to call a state of emergency, and we need to properly fund this national crisis," Adams continued, insinuating a grim future for New Yorkers: "We need help, and it's not going to get any better. From this moment on, it's downhill. There is no more room." (Related:

The mayor visited the Roosevelt Hotel, which was turned into a migrant shelter, on July 29 and 30. He shared that the illegals wanting to be housed "lined up around the block, hurting the businesses there."
"This is not going to get better. We put buses there for cooling systems, but it is just not sustainable. I'm just real."
According to Adams, his office will unveil the "next phase" for the Big Apple's response to the
influx of illegal aliens in the coming days and weeks. He stressed, however, that he did not want NYC to devolve into a state of chaos like other sanctuary cities such as San Francisco and Seattle. Tent cities in these places have wrecked the quality of life for residents.
"We have to localize this madness. We have to figure out a way of how we don't have what's on other municipalities, where you have tent cities all over," Adams said. "I can assure you that [NYC] is not going to look like other cities, where there are tents up and down every street."
State lawmakers also call on Biden to act
Days before Adams called on the chief executive to address the overflow of illegals in NYC, lawmakers in the Empire State urged Biden to declare a state of emergency.
According to the
Epoch Times, 54 lawmakers from both houses of the New York State Legislature – the New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly –
urged Biden to declare a state of emergency in a July 26 letter. Democrat Jenifer Rajkumar, a member of the New York State Assembly, was the letter's foremost sponsor.
"We are elected officials from NYC requesting your help," the letter stated. "Our city is experiencing an unprecedented migrant influx, with a surge of asylum-seekers arriving here in numbers never seen before in history. Our city is at a breaking point."
The state lawmakers urged the White House to expedite the issuance of employment authorization documents, dubbing it "a common sense and bipartisan fix." However, this comes with a serious repercussion – namely taking away jobs from citizens.
"Asylum-seekers are arriving eager to work, and [the U.S.] has 10 million job openings with 3.5 million fewer people in the workforce than projected pre-pandemic," they argued. "Letting [the] recent arrivals work will allow them to support themselves, and would boost [the] economy by fulfilling the labor demand."
The lawmakers also requested additional funding from the federal government. According to them, the Big Apple only received $104.6 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency – just enough for 13 days of relief.
"We take pride in [NYC] being a beacon of hope for immigrants, but the influx of migrants is so great that the city is running out of resources. NYC is being forced to reduce services for its people."
Rajkumar and the 53 other signatories reiterated that they "stand ready to help and to support [the] president in taking leadership over one of the greatest crises NYC has ever faced." They added: "We believe that with your leadership, we can turn this crisis into opportunity and that this can become one of history's greatest success stories."
